Americans Run Shell-Hole Dash Through No Man's Land

An American patrol of one officer and eight men emerged from a shell hole near Toul and dashed across No Man's Land without a shot fired. They lost their way in the dark and were joyfully safe upon return. Artillery and anti aircraft fire dominated the day as Americans shelled German first lines and a rear town. Engagements Monday night near French Lorraine involved fresh American troops repelling a German raiding party. An American officer retrieved a Prussian lieutenant from a German trench during a raid with French colleagues.
