Three Negroes Hanged in Montana Yard

In Sulphur Springs Montana on February 15 three Black men named Teste Fairleys Harrison Gibson and Tenry Hall were hanged in the county yard. A single scaffold was used and the execution occurred after they were convicted of killing and robbing Michael Fireman a white farm hand on a freight train near Saint Gap in October.

Running Fight With Submarine Reported Near Brest

A December 7 running battle from Brest twenty miles offshore was reported as ships Venduras and Honduras exchanged gunfire with a German submarine. The U boat allegedly was hit as it disappeared after returning fire from a six inch deck gun and stinging shots struck bridge and stern areas. The Venduras carried sugar from New Orleans to France while another vessel Honduras reported a crew tally and gunfire count.
