A local cleaner promotes year end suit and hat cleaning and reblocking services. They urge customers to bring items in before ordering a new suit, promising first class workmanship and cost savings by choosing their services.
County districts canvass pledges for Baby Bonds with a deadline of the 28th. Unionville committees urge pledges and explain buying timing, quotas, and payments. Bonds due January 1 1928, with five cents per dollar of the 1916 assessment.
A tornado six thirty Monday evening tore a path near Cres City two to three miles north, killing seven people and inflicting enormous property damage. Names listed include Mrs Berney Abernathy and Mrs W M White among others. two injuries reported near Newtown and notable destruction of homes, livestock, and trees.
Expert on grain diseases, R A Langenbacher, reports county grain conditions highly satisfactory and on par with the state. He notes a general animal danger from rye ergot, advises crop rotation, and says treatment costs about four cents per acre with seed treated, details available from the U S Department of Agriculture bulletins.
Reed son of Mr and Mrs D McKinley of Kansas City has passed the exam for overseas service and may be called to foreign duty soon. A Lincoln township native born June 12 1894 he first trained at Ft Riley missing a commission by age. he enlisted and earned a NCO badge then received a second training and his commission as a second lieutenant at Camp Jackson.
A large crowd attended a pie supper at Bradshaw Schoolhouse on Saturday night. About 18 to 20 pies raised roughly $84, with the first pies bringing $5.10 and cake adding $40.04, making the event a splendid success.
Protests to the State Public Utilities Board push back a proposed rise in Unionville light rates from twelve to fifteen cents per kilowatt for the first hundred, awaiting a hearing. The delay may strain finances as the town already risks service cuts if revenues fall short. Water minimum rate increases will stay, while Chautauqua concession bids are open until July 20 via J A Brown, secretary.
The W C T U held a Tuesday evening program at the Christian church on June 25 featuring music and a forceful address urging prohibition.
