Recreation squeaks by in Liberty Union vote issues

In Liberty and Union Townships voters approved a .5 mill recreation levy by seven votes 1 393 1 386 and a $50 000 five year fire bond in Liberty Union Township defeated a 1 5 police levy 1 435 1 314. Rezoning along Tylersville Road was rejected Dull scrutiny on police chief Noland cited as factor.

Rosenberger Wins Union Township Trustee Seat Upset

Raymond Rosenberger edges incumbent Emile Munch to win one of two trustee seats in Union Township. David McGinnis tops vote-getters in reelection, with Jerome Donnellon and Brent DeLay far behind. Voter turnout runs 45 percent as levy for police protection fails. McGinnis and Rosenberger will join board president Larry Gandler in January.

Voter Turnout Dips in Union and Liberty Townships

In Union Township only 2 704 of 5 968 eligible voters cast ballots while Liberty Township saw 756 of 1 536 participate. Leaders blamed general distrust of politicians as candidate margins tightened on close local races.

Four Area Court drug convictions overturned on appeal

A First District Court of Appeals panel reversed a January 1973 Butler County Area Two Court ruling. It voided drug convictions of Kent Baker, Donald Kelly, Randy Rogers, and Mark Banks, arrested December 24, 1972, after Monroe police found marijuana in a van they were in.

Liberty Two Baird Breezes To Win Magie Board Seat

Incumbent Arthur Baird wins Liberty Township trustee race in a four man field with 492 votes to John Magie 411. Sherman Reed 214 and Lon L Keith 177 also receive votes. Baird to join Morris VanGorden and Magie on the January board. turnout 49 percent.

Lakota School Board Members Re-Elected In Landslide

Three incumbents faced no opposition for Lakota School Board seats and were re elected. Robert Niederman led with 2472 votes followed by Roy Maddox 2453 and Robert Wasson 2307.

Monroe elects four to village council

Four candidates were elected to fill four Monroe Village Council seats from a field of nine. William E. Riggs and Gordon A. Doty secured the top two spots with 582 and 508 votes, followed by Edward Lewis Woodward with 427 and Joe Tuttle with 360. Other contenders trailed, as turnout remained light in Butler County.
