Osner enters race for Union Township trustee post

Marcellus Osner announces candidacy for Union Township trustee, leaving his current role as township clerk as term ends this year. Liberty Garden seeks to save 1887 schoolhouse building

The Liberty Garden Club asks Lakota School District to list Hughes School on the National Register. They seek donations of era school items and biographical material, plus photos and reunion contacts with Mrs. Sandra Tugrul 777 6209. Renovation aims to roof the sieve building and finish major work by July 4, 1976.

Monroe to Sell Car and Truck License Sticks This Spring

Monroe residents may buy passenger car decals at the Fire Department from April 1 to May 31 with blue for A to K names and green for L to Z by June 1. Truck trailer and house vehicle stickers started March 1 and run to May 31 with a 50 cent service charge.

Property tax bills to be mailed in Butter County

Butter County Treasurer Mark G. Wendel announced about 88 000 property tax bills will go out March 10 for first half 1974 taxes. Bills are due April 9 with a 10 percent penalty for late payment. owners are responsible whether they receive the bill. If not received by March 20, contact the courthouse treasurer.

Lakota Musicians Shine With 10 Superior State Ratings

Lakota High School music students earned ten superior ratings and 18 excellent ratings at the OMEA District 13 State solo and ensemble contest in Hamilton Taft High School. District results include 5 superior and 7 excellent ratings among 26 area schools, with Lakota entering 46 events.

Lakota Citizens Committee Names Bond Issue Chairmen

The Lakota Citizens Committee appointed committee chairmen and area precinct chairs at a Monday meeting. The group formed to back the Iota School Bond Issue, up for a May 6 special election. Finance chair John Hice. members Dave Tacosik Marty Sipos Jim Nye. The steering committee includes Jim Gentile John Hice Kelly Woodruff Jim Nye Fred Nichols Elaine Frost Bitsy Shaffner. A March 17 meeting at Lakota High School is planned.

Tornado relief highlighted in Butler County Civil Defense report

The 1974 annual report by director Irene Lewis covers Disaster relief after the April 3 tornado in Union Township with 105 volunteers logging 10 430 hours for rescue, ambulance and coordination services. Additional emergencies included drownings, storm damage and debris cleanup.

After the Big Wind Union tornado slide show

A 25 minute slide program on the April 3 Union Township tornado, titled After the Big Wind, will be shown March 19 at Hopewell Junior School Cox Road at 7 30 p m. United Way of Greater Hamilton coordinates with Butler County Civil Defense Red Cross and Health Department. Local officials police fire life squad personnel and residents appear in slides. Blake Blackshire narrates and a Q and A session follows with Union Township and Butler County officials.

New DES Rule Extends Withholding for Slaughter

Ohio State University Cooperative Extension says livestock feeders using diethylstilbestrol must withhold the growth stimulant for 14 days before slaughter, up from seven. The rule takes effect immediately and requires a certification that stock has not received DES for that 14 day period starting March 17.
