Court orders curb logging road near Big Butte study area

Citizens group in Mendocino County secured a second federal restraining order to curb a Louisiana Pacific logging road proposed through the Big Butte primitive area near Covelo. The order, issued by Judge Samuel Conti, follows evidence of road work on unstable soils and potential harm to the Eel River’s wild and scenic status and steelhead population. The committee seeks a land and timber trade exchanging unstable private land for stable public land to resolve the dispute.
