In a brief courtroom moment a court bailiff served a recusal and unrelated chatter spilled from bystanders. Both parties refused to comment on the alleged illegal procedure now under scrutiny. One wag quipped about not seeing it as a fly-by-night operation or a wings clipping incident.
Philip Gorny, a planning staffer since October 1973, becomes Mendocino County's new chief planner as the board merges planning and building inspection departments under one administrator. Gary DeSalvatore, formerly with NorCon Health, is hired as Director of Planning and Building.
County employees upset with this year’s wage deal invite SEIU representatives to discuss forming a local. Meetings are set for 11 a.m. tomorrow at the Veterans Building in Ukiah and 3:30 p.m. at the Vets hall in Fort Bragg with Napa and Alameda joining attendees. MCEA chair Pano Stephens cites SEIU strikes and claims better county settlements locally, while SEIU organizers stress worker input and alternate representation.

Carter pressed Ford on unemployment and poverty while Ford attacked Carter’s tax plans and past spending. both pledged budget balance and prepared for the next debates.
The California Council on Criminal Justice will review four Mendocino County grant requests totaling over 1.5 million, with a major jail construction project likely to be denied. Regional board backing supports small programs in Ukiah and the sheriff, while a 1.476 million jail proposal is not recommended for funding amid statewide limits.
