Segretti Indicted in Tampa Case of Dirty Tricks

Watergate probe ties Donald H. Segretti to a Tampa grand jury indictment for conspiracy and distributing political literature. The 31 year old Los Angeles attorney allegedly aided efforts to disrupt Democratic campaigns in the 1972 Florida primary, including Muskie and Jackson, with payments and forged campaign materials. Co defendants Benz and Hearing are named, but not charged. A Washington grand jury case may follow as further Watergate-linked indictments are expected.

Mitchells' marriage strained by legal battle and Nixon ties

Martha Mitchell says husband John Mitchell left four days ago on lawyers advice and plans to see her lawyer today. Consumers face huge electricity gas hikes

In San Francisco Pacific Gas and Electric has multiple rate increases pending before the California Public Utilities Commission. If the Aug 30 233 million dollar gas and electricity request is approved in full plus offsets, the average California household could see monthly bills rise by about 1.23 for gas and 2.13 for electricity, with total electric bills up roughly 25 percent year over year.

Ukiah Unified Board to discuss Nov 6 school bond vote

Ukiah Unified board will hold an adjourned meeting Tuesday at 8 p.m. in district office to review a 4.95 million bond issue proposed to augment a state loan for a new high school and classrooms. The plan targets over 6,000 K-12 students in crowded, outdated and near earthquake‑danger buildings. The session is open to the public and may address future Mendocino College cooperation and Mendocino State Hospital grounds use for an educational complex.

Fuel allocation urged over heating shortage fears

Washington report warns that without a mandatory fuel allocation this winter heating fuel could face a chaotic scramble if weather is colder than normal. The Joint Economic Committee staff study notes tight supplies and a great risk of shortages, with New England, the Middle Atlantic states, and the upper Midwest expected to be hardest hit. Senator Humphrey urged immediate action, warning shortages could reach 10 to 15 percent and halt life in affected regions if refinery output and imports decline amid severe weather.

Weibel tasting room dedication in Mendocino Redwoods region

Weibel Champagne Vineyards opened a new winery tasting room in Mendocino Redwood Valley, touted as the largest public tasting room in the U S wine industry. The 2 to 6 pm Saturday reception drew about 1 000 visitors, with champagne service and tastings as officials and media mingled. The facility, costing about 4 million, will span 200 000 square feet, employ about 50, and crush 3 to 5 million gallons with 8 000 cases daily capacity once fully operational.

Ukiah driver hurt as logging trucks collide

Ukiah driver Milton Bookout, 56, suffered major injuries when his northbound private logging road truck met an uphill logging truck driven by Jonathan Byers, 26, of Potter Valley, on a sharp curve near the Kelly McGuire Ranch south of Highway 20. Bookout was taken to Mendocino Coast Hospital. The other weekend incidents included a Chowchilla couple injured when their car ran off School House Road north of Willits and a Cloverdale woman with minor injuries after her car struck a boulder on Eastside Road.

Kelseyville Couple Killed As Car Hits Pedestrians

An 18 year old woman Claudia Triplett and her husband Lonnie Triplett were struck by a northbound car driven by Michael Beverlin 24 as they attempted to remove a gas can from a stalled pickup near Cold Creek south of Kelseyville. Claudia Triplett died at Redbud Community Hospital while Lonnie Triplett remained in critical condition. The crash occurred on Highway 29 around 8 12 p m as Domingo Lopez 46 drove the pickup that ran out of gas. Preliminary CHP reports indicate Beverlin may not have applied or had time to apply brakes. The incident marks the 12th fatal traffic death in Lake County for 1973. Funeral arrangements are pending.

Fire Calls Sunday Reported Wood Chip Blaze and Campfire Neglect

Fire calls logged on Sunday include a 7 42 a m response to Perkins Street and Northwestern Pacific Railroad tracks for a wood chip fire with no damage and a 1 13 p m call at the end of Laws Avenue where a small area burned after youngsters left a campfire unattended.
