Georgia-Pacific to Build Chemical Plant Near Ukiah
Georgia Pacific announces expansion of resin and formaldehyde operations with a new automated chemical plant adjacent to its particleboard facility north of Ukiah California. Construction starts soon with full operation planned by spring 1974 and annual capacities of 125 million pounds resin and 120 million pounds formaldehyde. The plant will employ 5 to 8 workers per shift and cost over 2 million dollars, sourcing most raw material from GP operations and supporting timber and particleboard units acquired earlier this year from Boise Cascade.

Firefighters Gain Control Of Dog Creek Blaze Near Dos Rios
Nearly 1,000 firefighters mopped up after forest fires near Dos Rios and Shelter Cove burned about 20 000 acres including timberland. The Dog House fire started five miles southeast of Dos Rios and is now contained. Fire crews battled a four by three mile blaze and 7 000 acres in total. Five hundred men strengthened lines around Finley Creek fire north of Shelter Cove, which has scorched 13 000 acres and destroyed two Shelter Cove residences. Ocean fogs aided suppression as dozers and air tankers target hotspots over four days.

Laos peace protocol sets coalition government amid war end
