Harriers enter big run at Ukiah cross country meet

Ukiah's Varsity and Jayvee cross country teams host Clear Lake in a non league dual meet at roughly 4 p.m. on the lower Ukiah field. The two squads include Jayvee Frosh Soph and Varsity runners with Andy Ingersoll Tim Wong Ted Blank Hi Campbell Mark Pardini Glenn Jensen Robert MacDougall Jeff Davis Ernie Weerts Warren Knox in the lineups. Warren Knox aims to return from injury for the competition and possibly the McKinleyville Invitational on Saturday as part of a northern area challenge.

San Jose State linebackers sidelined by injuries

Sportscaster Shaw Dies at 51 in Los Angeles

Funeral services are set for Jack Shaw former lead sports announcer for Tidewater Associated Co in the Western states. He was brother to former NFL quarterback George W Shaw and died of a heart attack Friday at age 51. Shaw was sales promotion manager for Phillips Petroleum Co in Los Angeles and broadcast more than 200 Pacific Coast Conference games from 1945 to 1956. He is survived by his widow Sara.

Clear Lake receives 56000 more channel catfish

The Department of Fish and Game announced more than 56,000 channel catfish were stocked in Clear Lake this month. Raised to 2.5 to 3 inches at Elk Grove's Central Valleys Hatchery, the fish were released at seven locations around the lake, bringing this year’s total to 81,000 plants as part of an ongoing effort to boost fishing in Lake County.

Alcindor Faces Rough Start Against Regarded Centers

Dallas defense dominated as Larry Cole and teammates sacked Fran Tarkenton 10 times, with Mel Renfro sealing a fourth quarter interception. Kings offer reward for missing goalie mask

Land speed attempt delayed at Bonneville Salt Flats

Weather delays the world land speed record attempt at Bonneville with a liquified natural gas powered blue flame rocket car. The postponement shifts the plan from September to August next year, as storms keep the salt bed too wet for high speed runs. Low speed testing near Dec. 15 in the Chicago Milwaukee area will continue to train driver Gary Gabelich and simulate field conditions.
