Forty Niners end winless streak with Spurrier spark

In Baltimore, Steve Spurrier led San Francisco to its first 1969 victory, 24-21 over the Colts, after an 11-game skid. Spurrier threw for 205 yards and a TD, Ken Willard ran for a score, and John Weitz returned an interception for the clincher as Baltimore failed to tie late. Colts coach Don Shula bowed to changes after the loss.

Upsets crown weekend gridiron action across conferences

Ukiah Teams Dominate Weekend Football Sweep

Ukiah teams delivered an all victorious football weekend from Friday through Saturday night. Jayvee beat Sonoma 13-0 with a tough defense and key runs by Jeff Haskell, while Varsity won 19-8 in a fourth-quarter finish after early scores by Bill Strong and Jose Fernandez. Frosh routed Sonoma in the second half, led by Mike Bowman’s five touchdowns, and Pop Warner Lions rallied to a 30-8 win over Petaluma with strong defense and special teams. Other area action included Sonoma State Jayvees 19-0, Santa Rosa Vallejo 14-14, Napa 14-6 over Montgomery, Willits 29-12 over Cloverdale, and Mendocino 30-16 over Covelo.
