Ukiah City Council cleared the way for the Far Western Conference Intercollegiate golf championships to be held at Ukiah Municipal Golf Course next April 20. The city will abolish green fees for participants and authorized City Manager Lyell Cash to welcome Humboldt State Chico State San Francisco State and the Cal Aggies of Davis for the event. The course will host intercollegiate competition for the first time.

Rough fish rebound boosts Russian River fisheries

State fishery officials report rough fish including squawfish carp and suckers are returning upstream faster than expected after a two year chemical treatment of the upper river by the Fish and Game Department. Young steelhead remain abundant in tributaries and summer trout fishing improved though not to last year's peak with winter returns anticipated in 1957-58 and 1958-59. Large numbers of young shad were found from Guerneville to the mouth.

Newly Formed Ukiah Skiing Club Car Wash Saturday

The Ukiah ski club formed under City Recreation Director Stan Stafford will hold a community car wash this Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm at multiple service stations including Thirkill's, Lawton's, Schoit Richfield, Prince Associated, Eland Chevron, Myers Texaco, and Kinsler's.
