Oil giants hike prices in liquified petroleum gas

Washington reports that Texaco Gulf Phillips Cities Service and others raised liquified petroleum gas prices after promising to honor the Nixon wage price freeze. Analysts say the move could amount to about 110 million in windfall and may raise antitrust concerns. The Nixon administration says it has not approved the hike and is reviewing court action.

Two Accidents Cause Driver Injuries In Ukiah Area

Two one car crashes left drivers injured Friday evening and Sunday morning. Eulogio Lopez 50 of Ukiah lost control on East side Road near Milani Drive south of Talmage and hit an oak tree causing major damage and minor injuries. Friday at 5 30 p m James Harvey 22 of Santa Rosa failed to negotiate a curve on the Ridgewood grade between Ukiah and Willits struck a guard rail overturned and sustained minor to moderate injuries. He was taken to Howard Memorial Hospital. The chief justice of the Supreme Court acts as presiding officer when the Senate tries the impeachment of a U S president.

Ukiah Rotary to Host District 513 Governor Visit

Ukiah Rotary Club members will host Charles Strope of Eureka, the new District 513 governor, at their regular luncheon tomorrow at the Palace Hotel. A pre luncheon club assembly with Rotary President Ed Bean and Secretary Bill Broaddus will review Rotary International and District 513 facilities in relation to Ukiah's plans and projects for the coming year.

Woman booked for harboring wanted man in Ukiah

Georgia C. Rossiter, 24, of Ukiah, was jailed after arrest on harboring and aiding a fugitive charge. Miller, 24, escaped from Willits jail in May after a drunken arrest. he gave a false name when approached by officers. Strope, Eureka Times Printing owner-manager and Rotary figure, plans a luncheon honoring Mrs. Gladys Strope amid Rotary events.

Two children survive plane crash in Colombia

In Neiva Colombia police reported 18 killed when a Taxi Aereo Opita DC3 crashed and burned just short of San Vicente de Caguan runway during landing. Only two survived a 6 year old girl and a 3 year old boy among 18 passengers and four crew aboard.

Private rites in Colma for Jessie Brunner

Private family services for Jessie M. Brunner 89 of Ukiah will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery Colma Wednesday at 10 am. Brunner lived in the community 80 years and belonged to Ukiah Presbyterian Church. She is survived by son W. H. Brunner, Ukiah, two grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Ten Die When Scenic Airlines Cessna Crashes in Arizona

A twin-engine Cessna 402 on a Grand Canyon sightseeing flight crashes into Shivwits Plateau in northwestern Arizona during a wintry storm, killing ten people including former U S Education Commissioner James E Allen Jr and his wife. The wreck is found after a CAP and Air Force search, with six identified victims unnamed pending recovery. A Mohave County sheriff’s posse faces a grueling 300 mile overland trek through snow and desert to reach the site, hampered by rough roads and high winds.

Final services held for Minna Elsey

Funeral services for Minna Horatia Elsey 72 of Covelo were held at the Seventh day Adventist Church in Covelo. She was a housewife and longtime community member. She is survived by her husband Richard Elsey four children James Sharp Orangevale George Sharp West Sacramento Elizabeth Ross Oregon Margaret Durel Millbrae one sister eight brothers 20 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Burial was in Ukiah Cemetery. Arrangements were by Eversole Mortuary.

Ethel James Services Held in Willits

Funeral services were held in Willits for Ethel A. James 81 who died Friday in a local hospital. Burial followed at Little Lake Cemetery. Born in Hearst she was part of a pioneer Mendocino County family and member of the Willits Hornesmen Association. Survived by son Edgar James and sister Della Van Deventer. Funeral arrangements by Anker-Lucier Mortuary.

Funeral services for George Charles Sloat 73 of Ukiah will be held at Eversole Mortuary tomorrow at 11 a.m. A 22 year Ukiah resident and retired road construction worker he is survived by his wife Elsie and by three brothers Everett Lakeport Victor Florida Lester Minnesota and two sisters Margaret Howard Larkspur Calif and Almina Sloat San Francisco Burial will be in Santa Rosa Cemetery.

Funeral services were held at Eversole Mortuary for Connie Marrie Kester infant daughter of Mr and Mrs Larry Kester of Boonville. Ukiah Man Given One-Year Jail Term for Drug Offenses

Galen Thornton, 24, of Ukiah, was sentenced to one year in county jail by Judge Arthur B. Broaddus after a guilty verdict in County Superior Court on attempted sale of dangerous drugs possession of dangerous drugs and possession for sale of dangerous drugs. The probation officer had recommended no jail term and no probation. Charlie Thomas, 24, of Ukiah, was convicted on two counts of assault fined 750 placed on six months probation and ordered to reimburse Masonite Corporation for truck damages from the recent strike.
