New Island Off Point Arena Shell Drill Rig Set
A new offshore island is to appear off Point Arena on Thursday. The Shell Oil Blue Water II, an acre-sized drilling rig, will commence drilling about 15 miles from Point Arena, 150 miles north of San Francisco. The rig, designed for deep water, houses a 50-man crew and operates at about $15,000 per day.

Ray Loop Rites Set Thursday for Ukiah Victims
Final services for two Ukiah plane crash victims near Boise Idaho will be held Thursday at Eversole Mortuary. George B. Ray 50 of Ukiah and Charles A Loop 50 of Ukiah Unified School District died when the craft spun from a low altitude. Al Goodlin pilot and A A Welding owner will be buried in Los Angeles. Loop’s service is 10 a.m. in Ukiah with interment in Ukiah Cemetery. Rays service follows at 11:30 a.m. in Ukiah Cemetery.
