Bakke’s Lawyer Alleges UC Violated Constitution in Admissions

Allan Bakke’s attorney argued before the Supreme Court that the University of California violated the Constitution by denying him admission to its medical school due to white race. Archibald Cox and Wade McCree countered that race consideration is needed to remedy past discrimination and promote diversity. Colvin said reserving 16 of 100 slots for minorities was broad generalization and unfair to individuals.

Ukiah Board Accepts Amended Bid for Vo Tech Center

The Ukiah Unified board approved an amended bid of 1 058 900 from Paul V. Wright Construction Co for three vocational-technical additions on the Ukiah campus to house the Ukiah ROC vo tech complex opening September 1978. The deal includes minority hiring clauses to satisfy federal guidelines and protect a 224 000 federal grant.
