High court acts on major cases
The Supreme Court on its first day after recess refused to review hundreds of lower court rulings on school integration, impoundment of funds, obscenity, and other topics. It denied Georgia’s bid to sue Nixon over education and pollution funding, rejected revisiting obscenity standards, and declined to merge Richmond with neighboring suburbs. It also rejected Hoffa appeal, blockbusting challenges, and sex preference in help wanted ads, among others.
