Three U S Planes Downed By Viet Guerrillas

Viet Cong guerrillas shot down three U S Army aircraft and overran a district HQ in Hau Nghia Province near Saigon. A combat helicopter went down in flames, with three Americans confirmed dead and two possibly missing. A second helicopter was forced to limp away after taking fire.

Unification Panel For Mendoseta Hatched Tonight

A panel discussion on the December 1 school unification election is set for tomorrow in Potter Valley. Mendoseta, a county teachers organization, will host a 7:30 p.m. meeting with panelists Jack Taylor county schools superintendent Leo Cook Ukiah attorney and chairman of the Ukiah elementary school board Charles Donaldson Hopland high school superintendent. Bill Watts Mendoseta president says the election will affect the future of all elementary and high school teachers in the area.

Kennedy Exhibit at San Francisco City Hall Rotunda

In San Francisco the City Hall Rotunda will host an exhibit of John F. Kennedy papers and momentos starting October 15. Sponsored by the Kennedy Library it features 70 photos and historic documents including a handwritten draft of Kennedy's inaugural address. The free display runs until October 18.

Cairo reports say Congolese Prime Minister Moise Tshombe is under house arrest with other Tshombe aides. Egypt demands withdrawal of Egyptian and Algerian diplomats from Leopoldville before any release. Officials claim Tshombe was told he would remain until diplomats left the Congo.

U S and Britain reject Russ spy charges note

The United States and Britain rejected a Soviet note as unsatisfactory accusing three American military attaches and a British officer of spying in Siberia. They said the Soviets violated diplomatic immunity by raiding a Siberian hotel and confiscating possessions. London said the reply failed to address the immunity issue and noted the attaches planned to travel across the Soviet Union to Tokyo with clearance given by Soviet officials.

World Trouble Spots Editors Told U S Losing Viet War

At the UPI Editors conference a panel warned the United States is losing the war in Viet Nam. Burton A. Chardak of the Philadelphia Bulletin cited the Viet Cong's reach beyond cities and questioned government motivation amid a chaotic, coup-threatened landscape.
