Miss Mendocino County Crowned At County Fair

Over 8 000 attended the Mendocino County Fair and Apple Show with Diane Lovell of Redwood Valley winning Miss Mendocino County. Attendance reached 8585 as rain muted Friday opening but not the crowd.

Truck Driver Killed in 101 Accident Near Laytonville

The Mendocino county week end crash tally includes Delbert Provines 52 of Sacramento killed when his northbound playback truck crossed the center line on Highway 101 three miles south of Laytonville. Joan Thompson 51 of Oakland was seriously injured and later hospitalized. Funeral plans for Provines were pending. A Calpella woman Jessie Miller 40 was reportedly injured when a car door flew open and she fell out. Several other injuries were reported from separate crashes on Highway 128 north of Boonville and Highway 101 near Ukiah.

Ukiah Man Accused Of Attempted Reported Incident

John William Stewart, 32, Ukiah, is jailed on charges of attempted reported incident involving a 16 year old babysitter at his home. Police say Stewart and his wife left briefly, returned early after an argument, and he allegedly tore the sitter’s clothes before fleeing. he was booked in the city jail shortly after midnight.

Hunter charges dismissed in Boonville case

Mrs. Hunter, once charged with felonies over private phone conversations, is freed after Judge Leslie Manker dismissed two counts as unfounded. District Attorney Petersen denounced the filing as improper and said no DA guidance was sought. The judge criticized the warrants and noted reporters are not subject to those charges.
