The 1971 season opens Saturday with Lower Lake Daze in Lower Lake at noon featuring a carnival and parade, plus a Memorial Day parade and Firemen’s Ball in Lakeport. In Nice, the Northern California Boat and Ski Club hosts the first 1971 championship on Clear Lake at Aurora Resort with about 50 water skiers and 2 hot boats in an all-day program starting 10 a.m.

Union plans protest in 50 cities over imported clothing
The Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America announced plans for a June 17 protest in 50 U.S. cities against foreign made clothing. A union spokesman said about 150,000 members would join demonstrations in front of stores selling men's and boys' apparel from low wage countries.
