Ukiah Blooperball League to Debut Monday Night

Ukiah Church Blooperball League opens Monday at Giorno Park with a 7 15 p.m. game between the Methodist and Presbyterian teams. Men and women play together under special rules using a soft softball bat and 50 foot bases.

Villanova Seeks Fifth IC4A Cup in Trackfest

The 86th IC4A track meet opens with 41 colleges, Villanova defending champion in 10 events led by Budd in the sprints and Traynor, Dante, and others in distance and field events. Villanova holds five of last year's scoring players contributing to a 46 point potential haul as they chase a fifth cup. Manhattan remains a distant strong rival. Fordham and Yale also figure among top contenders.

Thrills Ahead for Jalopy Race Fans in Lakeport

In Lakeport on May 24 the 1962 jalopy season resumes with Ned Smiley of Clearlake Highlands and Jay Hatfield of Kelseyville favored to clash after Smiley won the season opener heats and main. Hatfield, in a new car, edged Smiley in the second final amid tire trouble. Newcomers Don Davis Laytonville John Carmichael Ukiah Jim Daniel Adams Kilker showed pivotal speeds as a capacity crowd watched 27 of 33 cars race on the quarter mile dirt track with more drivers expected. The next 20 lap NASCAR sanctioned main is set for 8:30 p.m. with Charlie Porter and Ted and Bob Nielsen among upcoming contenders.

Los Angeles reports the Fish and Game Commission planned to approve hunting regulations and review a controversial anchovy petition from four Northern California fisheries to use anchovies for fish meal.
