Open Welfare flares as Philadelphia Warriors relocate to San Francisco for the 1982-63 season to compete against the Salms of the American Basketball League. A San Francisco syndicate raised 850000 dollars to purchase the team led by Wilt the Stilt.
The Oakland Raiders will train at Santa Cruz again and move camp to the University of Massachusetts Amherst on August 3, opening the fall season there. NBA owners voted 7-2 to move the Warriors to San Francisco, opposing teams Celtics and Knicks, amid antitrust tensions with an expected Chamberlain presence.
Ohio’s top track stars face a weekend of record-breaking attempts at the 55th state meet in Columbus. Dayton Roosevelt is favored to repeat as Class AA champion as Al Payne breaks the 880 record and other marks fall in hurdles, sprints, and relay events across state schools and notable athletes.
