Carter signs 175 million drought aid bill for West

President Carter signed emergency loans and grants totaling 175 million to help drought sufferers in the West. The measure authorizes the Commerce Department to fund wells repairs aqueduct upgrades and water conservation.

Carter signs major tax cut bill in White House ceremony

President Carter signed a large tax cut bill delivering about 19.5 billion dollars in new cuts for individuals and businesses while simplifying forms for the majority using the standard deduction. The measure extends 14.2 billion in current cuts and includes a new jobs credit for each hire above set levels, with refunds and special elderly credits.

Terrorist Seizure of School and Train Shocks Netherlands

South Moluccan gunmen seized an elementary school in Smelde and a bright yellow Intercity Express train near Groningen. They held 120 children and teachers plus 25 to 50 train passengers as authorities and parties responded. Several were able to escape or leave, while campaign events for Wednesday elections were halted.

Governor Jerry Brown Visits Cloverdale for Volunteer Day

Gov. Jerry Brown touched down at Cloverdale airport and spent two hours at Kleiser Park praising local volunteers from Jefferson School Girl Scouts Boy Scouts and Senior Syn copaters. Vivian Menicucci organized the visit which drew 3600 countywide attendees and featured a tour of Manzanita Manor.

Ukiah High School prank blamed on two girls sparks damage claim

A Ukiah woman alleges a April 21 incident at Ukiah High School exposed 30 to 40 girls to poison oak via toilet seats. officials say only poison oak leaves were used and two upperclassmen faced five day suspensions under state law. Doctors treated many girls for poison oak infections and police released the students to their parents.
