John Mayfield Jr a longtime North Coast Regional Commission chair and Republican challenges Gov Brown over his removal from the commission effective yesterday. Mayfield seeks a preliminary injunction to block removal while his court complaint proceeds. Hearing set for 9 30 a m in Dept 2 with an outside judge. Mayfield cites Prop 20 intent and alleges lack of reasons for dismissal and political interference. Next North Coast Regional Commission meeting is May 21 in Eureka.

U S regret note ends Thai US diplomatic crisis
Thailand accepted a U S note of regret ending the crisis over U S Marines in Cambodia during the Mayaguez rescue. Chartchai said the case is closed though bilateral treaty reviews will follow. Demonstrators outside the U S embassy ended a three day protest after the note delivery.

Willits men arrested in Stroud case
Two Willits men Harold Puff Harrington and Randy Russell Rowan were arrested in Willits and scheduled for arraignment today in the murder of 18 year old Barbara Stroud. The case involved a strangling and sexual assault after she disappeared January 8 and was found January 10 along Show Road north of Willits.

Ukiah Band Wins Top Honors At San Mateo Spring Review
Ukiah high school's marching band clinched the H. W. Christman Perpetual Trophy as the outstanding band at the 1975 San Mateo Spring Marching Band Review. Armijo took first in division with 88.60, while Hawthorne, Sunnyvale, Concord and others posted strong scores.
