Ukiah project permits expand public facilities center and mobile home park

A development plan in Mendocino County includes enlarging a public facilities administration center from three to seven acres to serve future needs at Yokayo Veterinary Clinic on North State Street Ukiah. County to auction surplus county vehicles in Ukiah

Mendocino County will sell at auction all surplus vehicles on a cash basis at the County Garage to the highest bidder. County approves bill to hike license fees

Mendocino County supervisors voted 4 0 in support of Senate Bill 503 to raise fishing and hunting license fees. Ukiah Red and Gun Club representative Burt Banzhaf urged earmarking 20 percent of funds for a specific use, while Fish and Game Patrol Captain John O Rhien argued funds can hardly be diverted if earmarked.

Leslie Bacon ordered to testify before federal grand jury

Leslie Bacon was granted immunity and ordered to testify before a federal grand jury on radical activities. She may refuse, risking contempt charges. Judge Goodwin denied a five day continuance and will consider due process concerns at appellate level. Her lawyers claim denial of due process.

Trains End Nationwide Rail Strike With Emergency Pay Raise

Freight and passenger trains resumed as union signalmen obeyed a congressional order ending a two day strike. Congress approved a 13.5 percent pay rise and a Feb 1 moratorium with Nixon signing the bill. Amtrak restored most intercity service while unions warn of more action after Oct. 1 if settlements fail. Separate local notes report a VFW Post 1900 and Auxiliary installation and a birthday bear party at Brookfield Zoo.
