In Calaveras County Susie Q the leggy frog leaped 17 feet 9 3 4 inches to win the Kentucky Derby of frogs. Owner Bill Moniz of Gustine California earned 300. Thousands watched as 20 international entries competed, including second place Squirt from Lafayette and world record holder Ripple. The event featured eliminations from Friday and attracted 2000 entrants.

Five Indians booked on trespass counts near Middletown
Five persons, all listing Alcatraz Island as address, were arrested by Lake County deputies on trespassing charges for entering private property near Middletown. At Lake County jail, Mark P. Wehausen 18 Atha R. Rider 22 George Clearwater 19 Geraldine Stifford 18 and Jennie Lee 19 were booked for trespass on Ralph Stinson’s property and building a fire. Rider also charged with possession of a billy club. This marked the second weekend with arrests of Indians for trespassing after a week earlier occupation of an abandoned governmental facility near Middletown.
