Sewage Court Halts P S P Campground Operations

Judge Arthur B Broaddus signed a temporary restraining order against P S P Properties over operating a campground on Albion Flats in violation of county water and sewage disposal ordinances. The order bars charging overnight campers and entry to the site until the hearing resumes Wednesday.

Permit sought to build 30 floating docks on Albion River

San Francisco firm PSP Properties Corporation has asked the Army Corps of Engineers for a permit to construct 30 floating docks on the Albion River near Albion flats and to approve an existing dock. Docks would be 40 feet by 3.5 feet with five feet spacing and shore gangplanks for mooring seasonal fishing craft. Objections due in 20 days.

Northwest California Weather Forecast

Northwestern California remains cloudy with coastal overcast through Tuesday. A chance of rain north of Cape Mendocino tonight and Tuesday. Inland areas stay cooler with highs near 63 and lows around 48 in Ukiah.

Death strikes in two counties in highway crashes

Two people died in separate Friday auto accidents in Mendocino and Lake counties. Stephanie Cooley, 23, of Berkeley, died after a car she rode in ran off Highway 1 near van Damme and plunged 200 feet to the beach. The driver, Stephen David Flax, 23, Oakland, and two other Berkeley passengers were injured. In Lake County, Dennis L. Bunce, 22, San Pablo, died when his car ran off Sulphur Bank Road above Borat Lake. passenger Jack Huddleston, 22, Richmond, was injured. Authorities cited fog and possible alcohol or drug involvement as investigations continue.

Naval buildup and river mining widen Vietnam conflict

U S warplanes mined inland waterways and seven North Vietnamese ports while the carrier USS Saratoga joined a larger offshore force. In South Vietnam Bastogne was retaken with US air support, as NVA built a road from the A Shau Valley toward Da Nang. Cambodia tensions grew.

Six arrested for drunk driving weekend across Ukiah area

Ukiah police CHP and sheriff deputies nabbed six people for drunk driving over the weekend. Arrests included Emilio Jimenez 22 Ukiah Charles Robert Miller 42 Ukiah William Bauer 19 Covelo Ralph Helske 27 San Francisco and Larry Davidson 22 El Toro with one more man cited for reckless driving. An unidentified female body was found offshore near Noyo Harbor and may be that of a missing local.

Round Valley Student Tops 25th Bank of America Awards

Diana Williamson of Round Valley high school wins $1000 top prize in vocational arts at the 25th Bank of America Achievement Awards banquet in Sacramento. Four California students share outright cash, with others earning 750 500 and 250. Over 600 attend as Carl R Terzian speaks.

Five Ukiah Attorneys Join Vietnam Protest

Five Ukiah attorneys led by Bob Fowler joined a Vietnam protest near the courthouse before 9 a.m. They plan to continue protesting for at least two more days and may invite more lawyers to join the march.
