Estes Brilliant In Ukiah Victory Beats Opponents

The Ukiah team edged ahead behind strong pitching by Estes who faced 27 batters through six innings and allowed four hits while rallying late. Treppa paced slick defense and timely hits as Nabors, Giarificchini, and Williams contributed in a rugged win that followed a rainout earlier in the series.

Reds ride bench power in 5-3 win over Pirates

Cincinnati used five pinch hitters to fuel a 5-3 victory over Pittsburgh, moving into second place two games behind the Dodgers. Chico Ruiz pinch ran for Jenson and Frank Robinson delivered a two run single after Leo Cardenas walked, with Gordy Coleman and Johnny Edwards providing key hits as Bob Veale was relieved by Al McBean.

Giants rally to beat Dodgers as Koufax falters at Candlestick

In a dramatic Sunday game at Candlestick Park the San Francisco Giants defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-3 behind a four-run eighth inning. Koufax left after 8 innings with 10 strikeouts, joining a 14-10 lifetime mark against the Giants and extending his winless stretch in San Francisco since 1963. Matson sets world shot put mark at Southwest meet

Texas A&M senior Randy Matson surpassed expectations in the Southwest Conference meet at College Station. He launched the shot put 69 feet 1 inch, inching past the world record and equaling a pending mark, while also setting a 1997% discus collegiate record. Rice won the team title for the second straight year as Matson stole the show.

Robinson Delivers Again as Orioles Sweep Tigers

Brooks Robinson, nursing a fractured thumb, returned as a pinch hitter in the 12th inning to spark an Orioles comeback. He singled, moved to second on a Gladding error, scored on Norm Siebern’s two-out single, completing a 7-1 and 5-4 doubleheader sweep of Detroit. He had been sidelined after being hit by Hank Aguirre on Saturday and hospitalized for X-rays.

Ukiah Athletes Shine In NBL Qualifiers At Santa Rosa

Ukiah stars led by Dan Hook captured key events in the North Bay League I meet at Santa Rosa. Hook won the shot put at 52 feet 6 inches, edging Santa Rosa rivals and securing two Ukiah finalists for the NBL finals. Tom Bettini powered the 1320 in 3:21.1, while Tom Langero placed fourth in the discus and Hugh Speer took second in the 120 hurdles. Other Ukiah performances included Jack Gilbert in pole vault second, Dave Brooks fourth in a grueling 660, and Ready Hook contributing to a strong Ukiah team showing despite B division losses to Santa Rosa Vallejo Hogan.

A packed week in Ukiah features the Ukiah Men s Golf Club Invitational Amateur Championship on the Ukiah Links with about 110 golfers over 36 holes. The Ukiah Rifle and Pistol Club hosts up to 100 shooters for Open Three Positional championships with relays from 8 a.m. The East Bay Boat Club showcases an outboard regatta on Lake Mendocino with Hydro and A B C class boats. North Bay League Track and Field finals in Santa Rosa Friday afternoon. Ukiah High School football and North Bay League baseball battles with Adaita Rosa Vallejo. Ukiah Little League season opens Saturday and Hopland Covelo baseball game Friday.

Outboards Race at Lake Meniloc Engages Bay Area

An East Bay Boat Club sponsored regatta brings 14 classes of stock and modified outboard boats to Lake Meniloc ing next Sunday.
