Open Competition Season Begins at District Fairgrounds Track

Northern California Racing Association plans the first Open Competition Super Modified races on May 7 at the District Fairgrounds Track weather permitting. Time trials start 1 p.m. with racing at 2:30 p.m., gates open 12 noon. If weather delays, events shift to May 13. NCAA Stock Car Division also opens with a doubleshare event, with expectations for more entrants than 1966.

Derby security and star entries at Churchill Downs

Edith Bancroft's Damas cus leads a field of 16 for the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs with entries including Diplomat Way, Redgon Patrie Jacobs, Proud Clarion, Eden's Dawn Glory, Gentleman James, Lightning Orphan, Balou, Ask The Fare, and Second Encounter. Pizarro Delivers Walkoff Win After Long Day On Mound

Marichal Seeks Mathewson Mark Against Mets

The Baltimore Bullets signed Earl Monroe of Winston-Salem to a two year deal to gain an early edge in the NBA race with the rival American Basketball Association.
