Reapportionment Cinch For Ballot in November Vote

SACRAMENTO UPI The Southern California plan to alter state Senate districts to favor the south appears a cinch to reach voters in November. Proposition 15 would assign 20 northern and 20 southern seats while reducing northern representation by eight. Frank G Bonelli said 275 000 signatures were filed in Southern California counties, with 420 462 needed to qualify.

Nixon Seeks Ready Vice President For 1960 Ticket

Washington UPI reports Vice President Richard Nixon would welcome Nelson Rockefeller as a running mate if he is willing to take on greater duties. Nixon wants a willing teammate and sees Chicago July 25 as the GOP convention start. Rockefeller had said he would not seek the nomination but remains available if drafted. Nixon also notes extremism on civil rights won’t pay off in 1960 and favors moral persuasion over new federal laws.

McPhillips Mare Tops Auction Prices in Sacramento

A registered quarter horse mare named Lucky's Choice, owned by Vernon McPhillips of Willits and sold to W D Dane of Healdsburg for 8000 dollars, fetched the top price at a recent Quarter Horse Breeders auction in Sacramento. The 12 year old in foal has won multiple roping and show prizes across Mendocino, Lake and Sonoma counties.

Voters to decide 300 million school bond issue

Sacramento (UPI) Gov Brown signed measures placing 300 million dollars in school bonds on the June 7 primary ballot. The actions raise monthly allocations for school construction to about 10 million dollars and allocate 200 million dollars from the general fund for related needs. The move aims to ease isolated school bond programs and boost construction funding.
