Connie Mack Team Forming Tonight At Vets Building

A local Connie Mack League meeting is set for 8 o clock at the Veterans Building. The gathering invites all interested boys ages 17 and 18, plus parents coaches and sponsors, to form teams from Ukiah Cloverdale Healdsburg and Santa Rosa. Mr and Mrs John Finnegan attend and will detail eligibility playoffs and plans to launch the program in time for the high school season end in May.

Fishing Report Sees Mixed Weekend at Local Lakes

Fishing Saturday morning proved a flop for trolling as rain kept the lake veiled. At Salmon Creek and Rice Fork entrance anglers using salmon eggs reported limits, then many shifted. Sunday morning better with worms and eggs until rain returned. Overall, results were mixed with some disappointment and others thriving. Lake expected clear within two weeks.

New York report from UPI shows Jose Gonzalez 155 pounds from Puerto Rico out pointed Obdulio Nunez 153 pounds also from Puerto Rico. Nunez received 10. The bout outcome highlights Gonzalez’s win over Nunez in a prize ring event.

McCormick Handcuffs Braves on Four Hits

Giants rookie Mike McCormick allowed four hits in a 5-0 shutout of the Milwaukee Braves at Candlestick Park. Willie Mays extended his hit streak to 16 with a fourth inning single. The win moved the San Francisco Giants within one game of the Pirates, who lost to the Cardinals. Other NL and AL results included the Reds over the Dodgers, Cubs over the Phillies, and the Orioles defeating the White Sox.

Rafer Johnson, US record holder with 8302 points, nears top form for Rome 10 event decathlon after recovering from a back injury. Ukiah North Little League Mothers Install Officers

Mrs Arthur Slack will be installed as president of the Ukiah North Little League Mothers Auxiliary at a 8 p.m. meeting at Frank Zeek school. Other officers include Mrs Charles Ford as vice president and Mrs James Smith as secretary-treasurer. All mothers of boys aged 8 to 12 in North Little League and North Farm League baseball are urged to join and support activities for a strong Little League program.
