Drunken, leaderless South Vietnamese 3rd Division troops looted and burned Hue the ancient capital. Tens of thousands fled as fires raged in Dong Ba market and a cement plant built with American aid was destroyed. Police reported soldiers without money or food fueled the chaos.
A local newspaper carrier requests prepayment for three months in advance to support ongoing delivery. The message urges readers to pay when first contacted to ensure uninterrupted service and timely collections.
Supervisor Ernie Banker cited Gov Ronald Reagan’s letter thanking Napa and San Joaquin counties for backing petitions to keep Mendocino State Hospital open. A seven year old from Talmage suffered severe head injuries Tuesday evening after being thrown from a mini-bike in the Foster Lane area. Brian Dean Neely, son of Mr and Mrs Donald D Neely, was rushed by Ukiah Ambulance Service to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital after initial treatment at Ukiah General Hospital. He reportedly lost control while speeding and was en route to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital for possible head surgery.
Two 16-year-old girls, Cathy Wyant and Martha Tucker, were injured Tuesday evening when a motorcycle entered the path of a westbound pickup driven by Dan LaRue. Cathy sustained major internal injuries while Martha suffered a possible double fracture and other injuries. The collision occurred at Mountain View Road and Ornham Lane with sun glare and overgrown sightlines noted by patrol.
The Mendocino County board of supervisors voted to increase the eight member MSH utilization group to nine with the new member to come from education. Ukiah district leader Nancy Marsh asked to join to provide an education perspective, while some supervisors urged the appointee come from the county board of education rather than Ukiah. The board authorized the county board of education to submit a name for consideration.
