Opening night features kiddies parade Miss Mendocino County contest and a four day professional vaudeville show. Friday includes square dancing with 250 dancers and top caller Fenton Jones. New Rainstorms Heading for N. California
SAN FRANCISCO UP A weekend storm pelted Northern California with downpours and gales tapering to showers. A new storm is expected to move in tonight north of Ukiah and Red Bluff and spread to Stockton and Salinas by Tuesday with snow above 3 500 feet. Inland damage included roofs ripped from homes in McKinleyville and power outages from Marin to Merin counties.

Four Skiers Rescued By Army Helicopter In Yosemite
Four skiers marooned in the High Sierra were rescued by a twin rotor Army helicopter, which landed in Yosemite Valley before 9 a.m. The group included William Pope, 22, a Stanford pre medical student, who was carried from the craft on a stretcher after pneumonia. The others walked off and all were taken to Lewis Memorial Hospital for checkups.

Highway 20 Nears Completion From Redwood Valley to Cald Creek
State officials say Highway 20 from Redwood Valley to Cald Creek Canyon will open soon with June completion possible weather permitting. The project cost about 3.2 million dollars with three bridges near finish and about 100 feet of paving remaining. Dedication plans for the Coyote dam and highway are under consideration with a mid July ceremony tentatively planned in San Francisco.

An Oakland man admitted to 56 burglaries in Lake County dating back to 1953. Richard D. Hoyt, 42, confessed after arrest in Oakland for a Marin County burglary. He was brought to Lakeport for questioning about the series of burglaries of unoccupied homes across the county. Loot was estimated in the thousands.

Fifty eight Mendocino candidates filed valid nomination papers with the county clerk by Friday’s 5 p.m. deadline. James K. Busch seeks reelection to the state senate and Ted Watkins and Fred Dupuis file to represent the First District in Congress. Knute Rockne Memorial Mass Held At Notre Dame
In South Bend Indiana over 300 people attended the 27th annual Knute Rockne Memorial Mass and Breakfast on the Notre Dame campus on Palm Sunday. A wreath laying ceremony followed at Rockne’s grave in Highland Cemetery. Rockne died March 31 1931 in a Kansas plane crash. Every year services are held near the anniversary.
