Investigators seek cause of an aerial collision between a USAF C124 Globemaster and a C119 Flying Boxcar near Bridgeport Texas killing 18 aboard. Weather and visual flying are cited as factors with minimum visibility five miles. All bodies recovered by nightfall.

A 200 foot long mud avalanche in Eel River Canyon disrupted Northwestern Pacific tracks near Gain Rock, 64 miles north of Willits. The slide crossed the roadbed late Thursday night, blocking the line after a massive sand and mud deposit.
The Ukiah Lions Club announces its annual Easter egg hunt at Ukiah City Park and nearby golf course on Sunday April 6 at 230 PM. Washington reports that the United States may launch a lunar probe within seven to nine months using a Thor missile paired with a Van guard second stage. Moscow's Pravda hints Russia may delay. the Navy already ordered Van guard stages for moon work, while Army studies a Jupiter C based two stage approach. A special appropriation for near moon exploration may be sought after Eisenhower approval.

Marin County Road Commissioner Marvin Brigham drained four feet of water from Jesse W. Carter's fishing pond with fire pumps under a Superior Court order. Carter threatened armed resistance and labeled officials vandals, while neighbors faced $10,000 in earthquake damage from a breached dam. The clash ended with Carter relenting and officials continuing the drainage action.
