St. Mary's defeated First Baptist Church 2-pt by 13 field goals and 9 free throws by Ray Whittaker and B McNally’s seven field goals to win the second half title in the Ukiah Valley Church League. They advance to face Assembly of God for the 1965-66 championship next Saturday at Ave Gym. Whittaker led St. Mary's with scoring flair while Kizer Pruden Jackson and others contributed for First Baptist. Crabs and teammates fought hard on the boards but could not halt the St. Mary's surge.
London reports that the British government faces IOC pressure to ban East German sports writers from the upcoming world soccer cup finals. Britain had rejected a sports writers association proposal to admit East German journalists for the European table tennis championships in April and the July soccer tournament. IOC President Avery Brundage told the International Sports Press Federation that NATO affiliated countries hinder East German entry and journalist attendance at events.
Ernie Terrell, 28, WBA heavyweight champion, said he will testify before a federal grand jury convening Wednesday to probe organized crime's involvement in boxing. He denied gangster threats and said going before the grand jury could help him. The grand jury has subpoenaed 10 people, including former manager Bernie Glickmann, as prosecutors seek indictments under a federal anti racketeering and gambling act.
New York UPI reports National Broadcasting Company will televise several National Hockey League Stoney Cup Playoff games nationally starting April 10. Three games will air on April 10 17 and 24 with potential May 1 and May 8 telecasts if the playoffs extend.
