State workers rally in Sacramento over pay and cuts

A 25 member Ukiah delegation joins a statewide CSEA rally in Sacramento to press for cost of living pay raises after Gov Reagan's budget proposal. Four nabbed in stolen auto on U S 101 near Burke Hill

CHP Officer Thomas Beals intercepted a stolen car on U S 101 at Burke Hill and arrested four occupants on auto theft charges. Dorothea Osborn 60 Arnold California was sentenced to 30 days in county jail with credit for time served after pleading guilty to passing bad checks.

Ukiah Legal Services Granted Federal Funds

Assemblyman Frank Belotti announced a federal grant of 53 000 dollars to the Legal Services program of North Coast Opportunities in Ukiah. Reagan approved the funds after review, praising the program’s focus on individual needs over politicized class actions and noting its avoidance of criminal and cash award cases.

Drugs linked to accident in Ukiah case

Andrew James Cleland, 19, of Ukiah, was booked by Highway Patrol on suspicion of driving under the influence after his car left the road and hit a State Division of Highways post on N State Street near Lake Mendocino Drive. He was treated for minor injuries at Mendocino Community Hospital. Police found marijuana and paraphernalia in the car. Robert Lee Cossey, 41, of Fort Bragg, turned himself in at the county jail to begin a five day sentence from Ten Mile Justice Court for a drunken driving conviction.

Pomolita PTA backs outdoor tables project at school

Pomolita PTA members plan to build six outdoor tables to ease lunch crowding and support outdoor classroom projects. Principal Roger Wren advocates the effort with PTA leaders Mrs. Richard Bakker and Mrs. Duane Wells chairing. Local donors Cagle Wholesale Lumber Co. and Redwood Coast Lumber Co. pledged lumber. others urged to contribute materials or funds. Jail Sentence for Aguilar in Grand Theft Case

Aguilar, 43, of Santa Rosa pled guilty in Superior Court to grand theft and was sentenced to 134 days in county jail with credit for time served. Arrested last October for May 1969 incident, he had been in diagnostic treatment at Vacaville State Hospital before sentencing.

Potter Valley youths probation for burglary case

Robert Wayne Houx, 22, of Potter Valley, placed on three years probation and fined 300 after pleading guilty to burglary. Arrested January 8, 1971 in Potter Valley following a Polter Valley grocery store incident. Court set December 6, 1971 to pay. Bonita Ann Vanderpool, 35, Westport, arrested at courthouse on drunk driving charges. Fined 260.50 after hearing. booked for nonpayment.

Lawsuit Filed Over Auto Crash Injuries in Ukiah

Jack L. Beam of Ukiah files a $50,000 personal injury suit in the clerk's office naming Vicki Lee Blakley as defendant after an auto collision on December 29 near N State and Magnolia. Beam seeks general damages and court costs. Also reported, Susan Brewer, 37, Ukiah, says a burglar stole a Spanish six string guitar and case from her mobile home near Highway 101 across from McNab Ranch, with estimated loss of $150.

Ukiah Boy Injured In Bicycle Car Crash

Ukiah 12 year old James Marvin Maurer was slightly hurt when his borrowed bicycle failed to stop for a car at Garrett Drive and N Elm Street Saturday afternoon. Fred B Dye 64, the driver, was eastbound on Garrett. Officer Paul McCoey investigated. no citations issued.

New Law Firm Formed in Ukiah by Bell Cox and Mannon

Three Mendocino County lawyers Bell Cox and Mannon formed a new firm with offices in the Savings Bank building Ukiah. Charles Bell Conrad Cox and Charles Mannon bring long local practice and civic ties to the venture dating to 1948 1955 and 1963. The history traces back to Mannon Brazier and Bell and earlier firms.

Tipsy driving suspects held near Willits and Laytonville

Two drunk driving suspects were jailed after arrests in the Willits and Laytonville areas. Thomas Pike, 33, of Ukiah, was arrested by CHP Officer Michael Kostanecki near Willits. Norman Owen Covington, 50, of Laytonville, arrested by Deputy Carl Kyle in Laytonville, booked to await Humboldt County authorities with bail set at 302 dollars. Additional arrest: Michael Douglas Little, 18, of Ukiah, on contributing to the delinquency of a minor and furnishing alcohol to a minor, booked at county jail after Lake Mendocino arrest.
