Pete Hathaway Named NCRA Driver of the Week

Local racing fans salute Pete Hathaway as NCRA Driver of the Week. The Ukiah driver, 19, races stock cars with No. 20 at Ukiah and Lakeport venues, drives a 1956 Chevrolet V-8, and is set for Army induction July 19. He works at Dick's Gulf Station and aims to learn mechanics for post service life.

Hardtop Standings Near Weekend Ukiah Lakeport Racing

Hardtop racing returns tonight and Saturday at Ukiah and Lakeport speedways with Stockcar and Super modified leaders holding narrow point margins. Time trials start at 7:30 p.m. and racing begins at 8 p.m. each night. Darrell Billups exits hardtop racing for personal reasons, leaving Ukiah and Lakeport fans missing a top competitor. NCAA standings list Ukiah Stock-Max Sitsimons leading with 272 points, Arnold Lyly 241, Terry Rossiter 221, Eddie Graziano 206, and others. Lakeport shows Lyly leading 256, Rossiter 251, Peters 244, Lasseter 218, De Schamps 309 in super-modified with Neilson at 293.

Dolphins Set New Petaluma Pool Records

Ukiah Dolphins, a young squad, dominated the Petaluma Swim Center meet winning 364 to 206. The girls aged nine and up led the way in distaff events while butterflies and other strokes boosted the team’s numerous pool records, many surpassing Oak Park’s marks in the Redwood Empire Swim League. Next up is the Mendocino Open on July 4th, with a community barbecue planned.
