Dolphins Time Trials Showcase Rising Ukiah Swimmers

Ukiah Dolphin Swim Club opened time trials with veterans like Miss Mosna and Kit Cleland alongside newcomers led by Pete Friedrichsen whose 128.5 freestyle hints at future speed. Venturi Wins Chicago Open With 66 in Windy Finish

Wen Venturi of San Francisco stormed to the Chicago Open title by closing in 66 in gusty 30 mph winds to finish at 275 seven under par, overturning a five stroke lead held by 23 year old Johnny Pott of Shreveport. Pott earned 4,600 for second as Venturi’s win mirrors last year’s come from behind triumph despite harsh weather.

Mickey Wright Sets Record With Second Open Title

Mickey Wright, rested after a 36 hole final, won her second straight Women's Open at Churchill Valley CC with a 287, edging Louise Suggs by two strokes. Wright now eyes a repeat at the Ladies PGA in French Lick Indiana next month.

Two No Hitters In Pony League Night

Ukiah Pony League fans witnessed two no hit performances at Anton Stadium on Friday. Harkins of the Chevrons struck out 10 in four innings and contributed 4 4 with McCain aiding the 20 0 victory over VFW. Rich Reitzell threw a one inning no hitter as Anton defeated Munnell and Sherrill 9 2, with Flescinger going 2 for 2 for the winners.

Baseball School Here Big Success in Ukiah

The San Francisco Examiner baseball school’s first Ukiah appearance drew about 300 youngsters plus Little League and Pony League managers from Ukiah and nearby counties. Notable organizers Augie Galan Oscar Vin Don Dempsey Milt Axt and Bob Jatjo received praise for teaching, with 50 boys from Branscomb Fort Bragg Kelseyville Lakeport Finley Boonville Willits Laytonville and Hopland among attendees.
