Anti-pollution bill clears California senate again

The California Public Utilities Commission granted Pacific Telephone the largest rate increase in its history, about 143 million dollars yearly, lifting home bills by up to a dollar a month and raising the return on equity to 7.85 percent from 6.9 percent in 1968. some long distance and direct dialing rates were cut. Four injured as pickup overturns near Fort Bragg
Four people riding in the front of a pickup were hurt when the vehicle overturned and rolled into a creek about 11 miles north of Fort Bragg on Highway 1. Driver John Carl Serger, 58, from Yuba City, was pinned for a long period with major injuries. His wife Gloria Serger, 46, their son Allen Edward Serger, and a friend Gary Ny were involved.
