FAA bars Ukiah air tankers plan for Mendocino County
The FAA in Washington refused to exempt the California Division of Forestry from basing two air tankers at Ukiah airport this summer. If a fire occurs, tanks must come from Santa Rosa Willows or Rohnerville, adding about 30 minutes travel. Officials had discussed flight patterns and exemptions but the ruling ends the plan.
