Willits Frontier Days Returns With Five Days Of Old West Fun

Willits gears up for its 47th Frontier Days from June 30 to July 4 featuring a junior gymkhana, rodeo, cutting horse events, parades, barbecues, a gunfight finale, and a townwide window decorating contest. Local events include Lions breakfasts, junior rodeos, and senior rodeo tickets, with support from the Chamber of Commerce and civic groups.

County settles with former appraiser in firing case

A settlement has been reached between the county and former appraiser John Feliz in the civil action over his suspension and firing by Assessor Webb Brown. Ukiah Plans Free Summer Honor Music Camp For Youths

Ukiah Unified School District and Ukiah Music Department chair Rowland Nielson will offer a four week plus free Summer Honor Music Camp from June 22 to July 20 for students in grades 6 through college with at least one year of prior instruction. The day camp runs 8 am to noon Monday to Friday with a later two hour daily post course in theory and notation from July 20 to August 4 for 25 or more participants.

State reverses stance on gravel operations at Eel River confluence

A. D. Willard, senior mineral resources engineer, tells Mendocino Aggregates owner Barney Rowland to ignore a cease and desist. The move follows a review of navigable waters classification, ownership of bed and high water marks, and potential state rights. Rowland plans to supply 31,000 tons for Highway 101 resurfacing, while Sen. Randolph Collier requested investigation.

Ukiah High School Site Committee Holds Inaugural Meeting

Ukiah Unified Board of Education President Charles Bell announced the first meeting of the district’s new high school site selection committee for 8 tonight at the district office. Members named include Al Norris Alex Thomas Ray Worster Lew Martinelli Mrs. Robert Sandelin and Don Heller with others to be confirmed as the committee works to identify suitable sites and advance a district wide master plan funded by state backing or an undetermined bond issue.
