Pony Dance Mack Games On Weekend

The Pony-Colt League event includes a Queen's coronation and dance at Carl Purdy Hall, Fairgrounds from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Then a Connie Mack doubleheader starts at 1 p.m. Sunday against Cloverdale with Ukiah atop the standings. Cloverdale features pitchers Parker and Modrell in a battle with Ukiah bats led by Aselton and Cataregli. Charley Tollini leaves for Europe, ending Ukiah’s current stretch.

Players Stand Out In Colt League

Wendell McCain collected three hits in three at bats and Larry Parducci hit a double and a single while pitching a strong game as Sporting Goods beat Hollow Tree 5 to 2. Parducci struck out 15, walked five and allowed one hit to Tom Wirt. Pearson and Gwin also starred for Sporting Goods. In the night’s second game, Lakeport edged Masonite 7 to 6 as Morgan Kirkpatrick and Colmore produced the Lakeport hits. Masonite’s Ricky Knight allowed only three hits and batted 3 for 3 in a tough loss.

Women's Golf Club announces trophy winners and events

At a Tuesday meeting Capt. Mona Fahrney announced Gladys Stickney won the Weber Buick Trophy with Elsie Dunlap runner up. Vivi Rones took the Captain's Trophy with Irene Rea runner up. Upcoming events include play of the day longest drive on No 9 and Round Two of the Bones and Ukiah Liquor and Sporting Goods Tournaments. The club also notes last week's Blind Bogey results and introduces 2-ball foursomes with a 5 o'clock tee off.

Pirates beat the San Francisco Giants 10-7 as Dick Groat Bob Skinner and Don Hoak each had three hits. St. Louis defeated Cincinnati 6-5, Milwaukee crushed Chicago 19-7, and Los Angeles topped Philadelphia 10-6. The Pirates’ 15-hit attack stretched San Francisco’s losing streak to three games.

Little Leaguers Parade Tomorrow in Ukiah

Ukiah Little League parade slated for 10 a.m. starting Seminary Street and marching to School Street in observance of Founders Day with nearly 500 youngsters to participate. South Ukiah Little League teams played last night, Masonite losing 6-5 to Talmage in a protest-filled finale. Brownies defeated Eaton Jets 15-5 with Scott Ivey pitching. Three North Ukiah games set for 4 and 6 p.m. at County and Lions Parks, with parade refreshments to close the day.
