Reports from Hong Kong said five American Air Force technicians on loan to France in Indochina were captured by Vietminh near Tourane in central Annam. Names were unavailable. capture followed a jungle swim. Tourane hosts a new American airbase supplying French troops.
The body of Mandaling J. San chez, a Mexican national, was found three miles south of Piercy this morning around T o'clock. Remains were not yet at Anker Mortuary in Willits by 8 p.m. No details on the death were learned. Deputy coroner Eugene Smith is investigating. The sheriff's office believes the accident occurred yesterday afternoon based on the early discovery report.
Ethiopian emperor Haile Selassie arrived in Los Angeles for a two day Southern California stay starting with an official City Hall welcome. He then toured Hollywood studios after a Yosemite stop and dined with Dr George Bergman at a Glendale sanatorium. He urged world cooperation for peace at a press conference.

In Eureka California the AFL Lumber and Sawmill Workers Union expanded walkouts to 380 mills, with over 3000 pickets in Humboldt and Del Norte counties. Twelve large mills shut down early, 18 smaller plants later, no clashes reported. The strike backs a 24 2 cent hourly raise. Hammond Lumber avoided action by accepting a 71 2 cent health and welfare program.
Tentative opening date for the new Mendocino county farm bureau building on the North Highway is planned for July 15 if the present schedule is maintained. The building will also house the office of agriculture commissioner and the University of California agricultural extension service.
Ukiah City Council accepted bids for Barnes Street bridge reconstruction with John Wagner the low bidder at 9351.45 and deferred action on 8700 feet of water mains in Mendocino Gardens. Lowest water mains bid 34200 from Louis Daniels Co was questioned for misreading specs prompting delay for clarification. Council also elected Ukiah Daily Journal for legal printing and approved curbs and gutters on Clay Street if Union Oil donates land.

A four-man eight-woman jury quickly found Melvin Frye guilty on four counts of issuing fictitious checks. The verdict came after a 20 minute deliberation following a 5 PM jury start. Judge Hale McCowen presided. Frye faces sentencing tomorrow. Defense was A R Broaddus, prosecutor Merle Orchard.

Representatives of the Blind craft Industry of Los Angeles will be at the Ukiah Chamber of Commerce headquarters Friday and Saturday to handle adjustments with Ukiah residents who have claims against the industry. Friday hours are 9 to 5 and Saturday until 12.

In Geneva France blocks ending the peace conference by proposing a nine nation Indochina commission. The Dow Jones averages show 30 industrials at 27.21 down 0.07, 20 railroads 112.20 up 0.41, 15 utilities 58.15 up 0.20, 65 stocks 123.06 up 0.10 with about 1 810 000 shares traded.
