Bat Day Prompts Oakland A's Pitch Rotation Change
Oakland A's pitcher Vida Blue faces the Washington Senators tonight after manager Dick Williams shifted the rotation to boost gate receipts ahead of Bat Day on June 26. Blue, 13-2, will duel Denny McLain of the Senators, aiming to keep pace with McLain’s 31-win pace from 1966. Mike Epstein, Oakland’s former senator, homered twice and drove in three as Bert Campaneris added a three-run blast in a 8-2 win that widened Oakland’s lead in the AL West to 5 1/2 games. Epstein said his outlook changed joining a pennant contender rather than a last-place club.
