Mendocino Board backs Navarro Valley Watershed project plan

Mendocino County supervisors in remodeled chambers unanimously supported a formal application by the Anderson Valley Watershed Committee for funds and planning aid to develop an Anderson Valley Navarro Watershed program. The move, forwarded to the Soil Conservation Commission in Sacramento for a June 24 meeting, seeks federal and state support under Public Law 566 for water conservation flood control and recreation in the Navarro watershed, including Hendy Woods near Philo and local farms.

California Governor calls for Senate reapportionment within three years

Mendocino Pass Hiway Tour Slated by Officials

A planned inspection tour of the Mendocino Pass route linking the Sacramento Valley with US 101 was announced. State leaders including Sen. Virgil O Sullivan and State Highway Commission members will travel from Willows to Longvale on June 25 to assess the proposed highway through the Mendocino National Forest and discuss local views at a June 2 dinner near Willows.

Ukiah Honor Roll Names 216 Ukiah High Students

Ukiah high school released the names of 216 students on the honor roll for the recently concluded semester. The list shows 57 freshmen, 37 sophomores, 45 juniors and 77 seniors, highlighting varying patterns in academic diligence across class levels. The full roster includes seniors such as Carole Abbott, Kirk Beck, Charlene Benjamin, Adella Berg, Dawn Bruber, Jill Busch, Laura Butcher, and many others.

The Uklah Daily Journal announces an annual ten day tour to Honolulu from October 18 to 27 with the Glikanl Hotel as headquarters and first come first served reservations through the Palace Hotel bureau. Frost Warning Service Gains Federal Support

Growers met with U S Weather Bureau officials and Congressman Clausen at Mendocino County's agricultural center to discuss creating a Frost Warning District for Mendocino and Lake counties. Weather officials outlined a district meteorologist system with 20 to 25 stations to forecast frost and guide heater use and labor. Clausen voiced optimism about forming the district, with a preliminary summer survey to work out local details.

Rape Suspect Surrenders After Escape

A 17-year-old Ukiah high student charged with forcible rape of an 18-year-old Ukiah housewife and mother turned himself in to Ukiah police after escaping from Juvenile Hall Friday. The offense occurred at the victim’s E Perkins Street home shortly after midnight Tuesday. He was apprehended at his Talmage home and is held in the county jail.

Weather report for Northwestern California and coastal winds

Occasional rain today and tonight with cloudy conditions on Wednesday and mountain showers. Highs near 75 in Ukiah and mid 60s in Napa and Santa Rosa, with tonight’s lows around 55 to 52. Winds west to northwest 10 to 20 knots offshore, lighter 8 to 18 knots north of Cape Mendocino.
