Carter Wins Energy Plan Victory On Capitol Hill

The White House and President Carter hailed key committee votes on energy policy. The House Ways and Means panel rejected a new oil exploration incentive and endorsed a phased oil tax to raise domestic oil prices toward world levels by 1981, passed to refiners and ultimately to consumers.

Uncertain fate for 17 water projects

Washington reports that 17 water projects costing 2.2 billion dollars face an uncertain future as the House approved about 12.3 million for Warm Springs Dam site work and road completion. Mendocino Youth Project seeks continued funding through August

Two board actions enable the Mendocino County Youth Project to operate through August with 10 000 surplus funds in July and a contract for August revenue from the California Youth Authority. Ukiah council to discuss sewer budget and youth project

The Ukiah city council plans 6 pm budget discussion focusing first on the sewer budget with a proposed rate drop from 4 to 3.25 dollars per month. The overall 8.5 million dollar city budget includes 3.5 million to PG&E, with police and fire at 557000 and 400000 respectively, plus road and golf project spending. Don Allen warns funding cuts could push youths toward state prisons, while supporters cite growth in school funding for the youth project. County Administrator Al Behrami announced Mike Garvey’s appointment as deputy administrator, effective June 29.

Ukiah Court Gets Parking Ticket Collections By City

Ukiah Justice Court will hand parking ticket collections to the City of Ukiah as the board approves the change. Judge James Luther seeks another full time clerk despite overtime clocking 132 unpaid hours this year. The court serves Ukiah Valley and has seen caseload rises since 1971 with more small claims in 1977.
