Giants Open Four-Game Series Aiming For Turnaround

Broncos Open Title Play in NCAA Today

Subert Stars at Pacific AAU Meet With Fast Half Mile

Jerry Subert, a former California great, posted the third fastest half mile ever with a 1 47.0 clocking at the Pacific Association AAU Track meet. San Jose State's Joph Ben Tucker followed closely as a strong challenger, while Jack Yerman battled injury and settled for third. California freshman Dave Ar Embald ran a rapid 440 in 34.63, and Bear standout Gene Johnson cleared 6 feet 9 1/4 inches in the high jump. Other highlights included Bob Poynter winning sprints in 20.6 and 20.5 seconds. Tucker leads San Jose State toward NCAA Championships in Eugene. Subert, a former Willits star, aims for AAU and Olympic plans as he eyes further national team opportunities.
