White House declines comment on Johnson finances
Washington report says President Johnson's Texas holdings exceed nine million dollars, but White House Press Secretary George E. Reedy refuses to discuss family finances. He defers questions to Johnsons' trustees, noting Johnson's focus on public duties and declaring no private income beyond his official salary and allowances. Several Texans recall Johnson's direct dealings with family ventures and the trust administers the holdings. The Star cites Abe Fortas but asserts broader allegations remain. Card of thanks ends the item with bereavement condolences.
