The Seventh Day Adventist Church chooses Cleveland as the site for its 1958 general conference. World president Elder Reuben R. Figuer says the move benefits eastern U S members, noting San Francisco hosted seven of nine quadrennial world sessions since 1918 as the church wound up its 47th session.
SAN FRANCISCO (UP) Union negotiators and Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Company met again to avert a two state strike as the contract extended to Friday midnight with possible earlier renewal on two days notice. W. M. Gruwell of the CWA said the extension aims at a peaceful settlement. The CWA seeks a company paid health plan, broader vacation for older workers, pension raises and a wage increase. PT&T offered an 18 month renewal of the old contract.
Henry S. Thomson a 48 year old San Francisco shoe salesman accidentally drowned in Clear Lake Soda Bay at 9 30 p m Saturday night Coroner R A Kinleyside of Lakeport said today Witnesses told the coroner s office Thomson went for a swim after eating a snack at the summer home of Mr and Mrs Richard Mesak He complained of the water being cold and began to swim to shore but disappeared The body was recovered about 12 15 Sunday morning with drag lines Thomson is survived by his wife Frieda.
Two men named John Henderson and Ernest Brown were sentenced to 30 days in the workhouse as suspicious persons after they entered a local store to cash a check for Kikuye Ishimatsu claiming to be from Tibet. Police also noted a badge found on the pickpocket in Waterbury Connecticut.

Thomas D. Lee aged 23 months died after drinking Isotex Garden Spray at his Laughlin Lane home in Redwood Valley. His 10 year old sister found him vomiting and alerted relatives who moved him to Mendocino Medical Center then Ukiah General Hospital where he died. Coroner Broaddus suspects a toppled spray bottle from the kitchen cupboard as the likely cause.
