Silent s Braves Open in SF Series as Yanks Win

San Francisco notes the Giants opening a crucial 13 game home stand after a 13 21 road stretch. Milwaukee Braves manager Bill Rigney cites fatigue. Ruben Gomez starts for the Braves while Lew Burdette counters for the Giants. The Yankees roll on with Whitey Ford using a half wind up, striking out 10 in a 3-0 win over the White Sox as Hank Bauer and Mickey Mantle pace the offense. Cincinnati beats Pittsburgh behind Joe Nuxhall's seven hitter and two RBIs. Albie Pearson's 10th inning single lifts Washington over Baltimore 2-1 with Griggs pitching for the Senators.

Car Wash Set By Dolphins Saturday As Fund Raiser

Ukiah Dolphins Swim Club plans a fund raiser car wash on Saturday June 7 at Chevron Service Station Norman Eland State and Stevenson Street downtown. Proceeds from the 1.40 wash go to the Dolphin treasury to fund summer swimming program, shows, and hosting visiting teams. Youth swimmers will wash and shine cars all day to support their activities.

Auto Dealers Open South Little League With Win

The Auto Dealers defeated the Aaton Jets 2-0 at Giorno park behind Richard Reitzell pitching a one hitter. Hayes and Reitzell produced a third inning two run explosion on three hits as Cunningham allowed four hits but issued some walks. In game two Brownie's Market routed Service Clubs 16-3 with Richard Wolney homering to pace the win while Service Club pitchers struggled.

New Yorker Shines in Early British Amateur Opener

Tim Holland of Rockville Centre N Y leads nine other American survivors into the second round at St Andrews in the British Amateur with an 8 and 7 victory over Dr James Hastings of Scotland. Gene Andrews of Pacific Palisades Calif and Reg Taylor of South Africa also advance in a field trimmed after the first round.

Ukiah Club Bows To Top League Rifle Honors In 1957 58

Ukiah Rifle and Pistol Club concluded the 1957 58 indoor season with 14 wins and 2 losses winning the North Bay Rifle League top honors. Five members earned gold trophies for highest averages, led by Ken Cummins and Bob Wood in Master class and Herb Singley in Expert, with Irvin Brown receiving the most improved shooter award. The club plans to expand pistol events and invites joiners via Ed Groves. Individual season averages list 16 names with Brown and Cummins near the top.

Ukiah Valley racing community volunteers and donors helped build micro and quarter midget tracks at Falf grounds parksri ber Ward Henry Bill a. The Micro and Quarter Midget Association directors include Wes Chidwell Louis Feigin and Williams. The second racing program is planned about two weeks from Sunday.

Ukiah Triumphs Over Petaluma In Final Dual Meet

Ukiah edged Petaluma 52 to 49 in the last dual track meet of the year as Joe Harlan led the highs with a first and lows with a second. Myron Remington ran a season best 0.54 in the 440, James Miller, Dave Ahu, Barry Turner, and others contributed wins. Ukiah also swept B and C divisions, setting a new school B pole vault record with Sibbett and Williams and securing multiple event wins and placements.

In other North Little League games Lions Club beat Palace Chefs 4-3, Potter Valley Pine Browns down Ukiah Cleaners 4-2. Harold Maize doubled in both Cleaners runs.

Bernier Holds PCL Lead Despite Big Drop

In San Francisco, Carlos Bernier of Salt Lake City kept the Pacific Coast lead with a .387 average after a 30 point dip. He has 63 hits in 163 plate appearances, while Willie McCovey of Phoenix tops with 68 hits and .374. Dick Stuart leads homers with 19 and RBIs with 56. Gary Bell of the Padres tops ERAs with 1.56 per nine, Ernie Broglio of Phoenix leads wins at seven, and Marshall Bridges of Sacramento has 63 strikeouts.
