Fly-in Air Show Promises Finest Ukiah Rotary Event

Thousands are expected at the Ukiah Rotary Club Fly-in and pancake breakfast at the Ukiah airport. Highlights include Max Hartley performing aerobatics at 9 am, Ken Cantrell piloting a Pitts Special at 9 45, and Bob Hoover in a Shrike Aero Commander at 10 15. Navy and Marine displays, two Air Force jets, scenic rides, and awards add further excitement, with breakfast served until 12 30 and 100 Rotarians aiding the event.

California North Coast timber panel to meet in Fort Bragg

A select committee appointed by Assembly Speaker Bob Moretti will meet in Fort Bragg mid August to study accelerated timber cutting and its effect on the economy. The panel will review Georgia Pacific’s coastal timber operations and long term cutting plans in Mendocino Humboldt and Del Norte counties with members Keene Zberg Sieroty Wood Nimmo and Davis.

Moore says Nixon sought to reveal Watergate facts openly

White House Special Counsel Richard A. Moore testified Nixon pressed in March to release Watergate facts and rejected an FBI probe of Senate Watergate committee members. Moore contrasted his account with Dean's and recounted Dean’s proposal to trigger FBI scrutiny of past campaigns to attack the committee. Fire kept to a quarter-acre by swift air crews and rain

Lightning rattled the Mendocino range as helicopter firefighters raced to contain a one-quarter-acre blaze on John Waltham and Charles Guntley property near Lake Mendocino. Jury misconduct charged in Oscar Klee tax case
